Most homeowners going through this for the first time have the same question underneath all the others: what am I actually paying for, day by day? Here’s the honest walkthrough, not the marketing version. If you’re still deciding whether to repair or replace, our roof repair services page covers how to tell which one you actually need, and if it’s more repairs than a full job, that’s the better fit.
Every roof we install follows the same core sequence, adjusted for what your roof actually needs. Winnipeg’s process is straightforward once you know the steps, even with everything the local climate throws at it.
The Sequence, Roughly
- Inspection. A roofing specialist looks at the roof, the deck, and the flashing before committing to replacement rather than repair. Sometimes a full replacement isn’t actually the right call, and we’ll say so.
- Removing the old roofing and inspecting as we go. Old asphalt shingles, underlayment, and anything missing or damaged all come off, down to the deck. This is also when anything hidden gets found.
- Deck inspection. With the old roofing gone, the deck itself gets checked for rot or soft spots. This is the step that occasionally turns up a surprise, more on that below.
- Installation. New underlayment, flashing redone around chimneys and vents, proper ventilation, then the new roofing material itself, installed to code.
- Cleanup. Full debris removal plus a magnetic sweep for nails, the kind of thing that matters more than people expect once there are kids or pets in the yard.
- Final walkthrough. We check the work, including eavestroughs and flashing points, against our own standard, not just against “does it look done.”
Good ventilation keeps your attic from trapping heat and moisture, protects the insulation underneath, and adds real years to your roof’s lifespan. It isn’t just a box to check, it also cuts down on future maintenance.
How Long It Actually Takes
Most Winnipeg roof replacements run about five days, start to finish. Bigger or more complex roofs take longer, and weather can push things back. We’ll give you a realistic window up front rather than an optimistic one that slips.
About That Deck Surprise
The deck is part of your roof structure that has to be solid before anything new goes on. Sometimes it’s fine. Sometimes it isn’t, and that only becomes obvious once the old roofing is off. When that happens:
- We stop and show you what we found
- We explain what fixing it involves
- We get your sign-off before any extra work or cost gets added
No change orders you find out about after the fact.
Winnipeg’s Climate Isn’t Optional to Plan Around
Cold winters and a real freeze-thaw cycle mean materials need to handle temperature swings without cracking. Ice damming is part of why certain steps, shingle sealing for one, depend on the temperature at install time. We’re a local crew that schedules around that instead of pretending it doesn’t matter, for homes across Winnipeg and the surrounding area, including Birds Hill, Grande Pointe, Lorette, Oakbank, and Dugald.
Cost and Materials, Briefly
This page is about the process, not the price. For the full breakdown by material and roof size, see our roof replacement cost guide, or request a quote directly. For a comparison of shingle types and other roofing materials, see our roofing materials guide.
If a Storm Caused the Damage
Contact your roof insurance company before assuming you’re on the hook for the full cost. Storm damage usually means water got somewhere it shouldn’t, and documenting that early makes the claim easier to support. We can help with that documentation. The full walkthrough of that process is in our guide to roof insurance claims.
Who’s Actually Doing the Work
Every job is handled by our own roofing specialists, not subcontractors, and Mike personally oversees each one from start to finish. Every estimate is itemized upfront, no vague lump-sum number you’re supposed to just trust, and it’s all backed by a workmanship warranty.
What People Ask Before We Start
Do I need to be home for this? Not usually, no. We’ll sort out access ahead of time, sometimes that just means knowing where to park.
What if you find something bad once the old roof’s off? We stop and tell you. You decide before we do anything about it. Every specialist on our crew knows to stop and check with you, not push ahead and explain later.
Is five days a hard number? It’s realistic for most jobs, but a bigger roof or bad weather can add a day or two. We’d rather tell you that upfront than promise five and miss it.
Does the cleanup cost extra? No, full cleanup and a nail sweep are part of the job, not an add-on.
